FAQs

What are key qualities we should look for in a group location?

A parking option (lot, street parking, etc.), an indoor alternative if you select an outdoor space and it rains, make sure the location is a place that can accommodate a large group. Also, consider the noise level.

How do I build leaders within my group?

Start by giving them a little responsibility and see what they do with it. Most times, people who attend your group are waiting for an opportunity to be involved & lead. Delegate different parts of the night and continue to give them more responsibility. Examples are: ice breaker, scripture, main idea, discussion point one and question one, discussion point two and question two, summary, call to action, prayer & praise.

What do I do if my group location closes down in the middle of the season?

We want to do our best to ensure that we aren't changing locations in the middle of the SZN, however things come up that are beyond our control. If your location closes down mid season, talk to your Coach right away and work with them to find a solution for the remainder of the SZN.

What do I do when there is a question I don’t know how to answer?

We won't have answers to every question, whether life questions or Bible questions, that we're asked but what we can always do is encourage people in what they're going through. Coaches are also a great resource that you should utilize when moments such as these come up.

How can you identify people to be Building Blocks and determine which role they should play?

If an individual is on time and consistent you can start delegating roles to them during groups and begin having conversations with them around being part of your building blocks. Don't wait for the "perfect leader" to walk into your group. The truth is, your group will flow better and be more enjoyable for everyone if multiple people are involved in leading and organizing the night. Deciding on which role is the best fit should based on their personality and leadership skills.

What should I include in the Event Summary?

An overview of your night, who led which parts of the night, guest contact info -- you should always write "ADD TO ROSTER" above the peoples names who you'd like added to your roster. If out of town guests or people from attend other crews join your crew you can still add their contact info but clearly state that they won't be added to roster. Always add first and last names for prayer requests and praise reports.

How do I build a healthy Group?

Prepare in advance and arrive early! If you're speaking 30% of the time and others are speaking 70% of the time you're on your way to building a healthy group. Delegate roles and let the key leaders in your group know in advance what role they will help with that night so they can arrive prepared. Send out your group invites and work with your co-leads to individually text everyone on your roster and personally invite them out. Another great way to know if you're on your way to building a healthy group is if you have your Building Blocks in place.

How do I help people identify their next step in their relationship with Jesus?

Groups are all about building relationships! Get to know each other, find out their story! Invest time into them by asking hard questions. Help connect dots for them by talking about the starting point, water baptism, serving and discipleship groups.

What if I don't have all my building blocks in place?

We want to consistently be raising up leaders. Before the SZN begins, it should be your goal to have all your building blocks in place. In the event that you don't, continue to search out people who can support you in a building block role. You can even work with your previous Leaders to see if there's anyone who can transition with you and also ask other people who aren't leading in their current group. Remember, it's not the job of a  Coach to find your building blocks!

Should I lead every discussion during the SZN?

Part of your role as a group leader is building up those around you. Allow your Building Blocks to learn and grow. Give them and other consistent leaders in your group opportunities to lead in multiple areas of the group, including in leading the discussion.

How do I stop a conversation that shouldn't be happening in a Crew setting?

In moments that the conversation gets off topic, step in and redirect the conversation back on topic.
