DAY 3 | God, Where Are You?

Scripture: Psalm 22:1-2, 9-11

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
Why are you so far away when I groan for help? 
Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. 
Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief. 
Yet you brought me safely from my mother's womb 
and led me to trust you at my mother's breast. 
I was thrust into your arms at my birth. 
You have been my God from the moment I was born. 
Do not stay so far from me, 
for trouble is near, 
and no one else can help me.

Framing:

David wrote these words from a place of profound abandonment. Jesus prayed them from the cross. The fact that this prayer is in Scripture tells us something important: feeling forsaken is not the same as being forsaken.

Pray:

If you are in a season where God feels far away, pray these words as your own.
Don't rush to the resolution.
Stay in the honesty of the first half — and let that itself be your prayer today.

DAY 2 | How Long?

Scripture: Psalm 13

O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?
How long will you look the other way? 
How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, 
with sorrow in my heart every day? 
How long will my enemy have the upper hand? 
Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! 
Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. 
Don't let my enemies gloat, saying, 'We have defeated him!' 
Don't let them rejoice at my downfall. 
But I trust in your unfailing love. 
I will rejoice because you have rescued me. 
I will sing to the Lord 
because he is good to me. 

Framing:

This is one of the most compressed and complete prayers in the Psalter — from despair to declaration in six verses. David doesn't pretend he's okay. He asks hard questions and then, without the situation changing, chooses to trust.

Pray:


Ask God the question you've been afraid to ask. Say it out loud.
Then sit with the last two verses — not as a performance, but as a decision.

Scripture: Psalm 139:1-12

O Lord, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me. 
You know when I sit down or stand up. 
You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. 
You see me when I travel 
and when I rest at home. 
You know everything I do. 
You know what I am going to say 
even before I say it, Lord. 
You go before me and follow me. 
You place your hand of blessing on my head. 
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, 
too great for me to understand! 
I can never escape from your Spirit! 
I can never get away from your presence! 
If I go up to heaven, you are there; 
if I go down to the grave, you are there. 
If I ride the wings of the morning, 
if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 
even there your hand will guide me, 
and your strength will support me. 
I could ask the darkness to hide me 
and the light around me to become night— 
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. 
To you the night shines as bright as day. 
Darkness and light are the same to you. 

Framing:

David opens this psalm not with a request but with a realization — God already knows everything. There is nothing to hide and nowhere to hide it. That's not a threat. For David, it's the beginning of freedom.

Pray:

Pray honestly today about something you've been keeping at a distance from God.
You don't have to clean it up first. He already knows — bring it anyway.

How to Use This Guide:

For 21 days, you will pray alongside David — using his words as a doorway into your own. Each day is simple: read the passage, let the framing orient you, then follow the prayer prompt.
 
This is not a study guide. You don't need a notebook or a method. You need a few minutes, an open heart, and a willingness to be as honest with God as David was.

The arc of these 21 days moves through three postures:
Week 1: Honest — coming to God as you are 
Week 2: Desperate — crying out in the hard middle 
Week 3: Trusting — resting in who God is
