Day 8: Praise In The Cave | Psalm 57:1-3, 9-11

DAY 8 | Praise In The Cave

Scripture: Psalm 57:1-3, 9-11

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!
I look to you for protection.
I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings
until the danger passes by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
He will send help from heaven to rescue me,
disgracing those who hound me.
My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.
I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
I will sing your praises among the nations.
For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.
May your glory shine over all the earth.

Framing:

David wrote this Psalm while literally hiding in a cave from Saul, who was hunting him to kill him. He had every reason for despair. But something breaks open in the middle of this prayer — desperation becomes declaration. He doesn't wait until he's out of the cave to worship.

Pray:

What cave are you in right now — what situation feels like it has closed in around you?
Pray from inside it today. Ask God for mercy, and then dare to declare something true about Him before anything has changed.
